Remembering & travelling #4 "The people that don't matter.", Bogota, October 11, 2022

On October 11, the fourth travel of dialogue took place. This event was organized in close cooperation with Idipron trainers Kalia Ronderos (Asociación Caompania La Otra) and our cooperation partners Carolina Galindo (Universidad del Rosario) and Tatjana Louis (Universidad de los Andes).

Ex-homeless people are working together with Idipron to get people off the streets and give them back their rights. The itinerary for the travel of dialogue was designed by Idipron and showed the "invisible" Bogotá - the city as seen by people who have no permanent home. The armed conflict and drug trafficking had, and still has, a direct impact on homeless people. Yet they are rarely depicted in telenovelas and series. An exception is a short scene in Pablo Escobar - El Patrón del Mal, which shows the homeless as vulnerable and easily manipulated. The travel of dialogue adressed these gaps and reflects on the representation of homelessness in Colombian telenovelas and TV-series. Afterwards, there has been workshops on the analysis of films and series, as well as on topics such as citizenship and critical media consumption.

The travel of dialogue is part of GUMELAB's transfer measures. Through dialogue and collaboration with former homeless persons, the research on telenovelas and series is brought closer to people outside the academic context, and critical media consumption is encouraged.
